Travelling during the weekend

The cheapest time to travel within Germany is during the weekend.

Why? The DB or Deutsch Bahn (Bahn in german means train) provides a special price to travel during the weekend. The price is Euro 37, it is for five person and valid for the whole Gemany with second class seating. It depends on which region you are from, and which region you are heading to. Prices go as low as 5Euros/person, when sharing a ticket!

The second class and first class in regional trains do not have many differences. Although, it might be wise to book first class seats (which are normally 10Euros more than second class seats) when travelling during peak times. In ICE's (InterCity Express, Germanys leading express train) and IC's (InterCity, normal trains, less stops) the first class seats are distinctively more comfortable, e.g more legroom, wider seats.

One thing new comers should know is, buying at the counter is 2 Euro more expensive than buying at the machines. However, do consider buying at the counter when you do not know your way around and you have no local to help you!
